Breaking into journalism takes more than passion. It takes tenacity, practical skills, and an understanding of how to tell compelling multimedia stories.
That’s where the NCTJ diploma in journalism comes in. It is the qualification many editors across the UK recognise, respect, and rely on when recruiting reporters.
An industry standard that carries weight
Ask any editor what they look for in a reporter, and you’ll often hear the same answer: “Are they NCTJ qualified?” The diploma is more than a credential; it’s a sign of commitment. It tells editors you have the skills and knowledge essential in a modern newsroom: media law, public affairs, ethics, journalism for digital audiences, as well as how to find and craft good news stories and features.
It’s a benchmark that signals you are serious about journalism.
Hands-on, real-world training
At PA Media Academy, NCTJ courses are designed to mirror the pace and pressure of a real newsroom. You’ll work on live news days, conduct interviews, find and write your own stories, and produce digital content to deadlines.
By the end, you’ll have a qualification and a body of work that proves you’re newsroom-ready.
Follow your interests, news, feature writing, or sports
PA Media Academy offers three ways to tailor your NCTJ diploma. You can choose news journalism, digital features, or sports journalism, helping you build expertise in the area that inspires you most, as well as helping you stand out to employers looking for skilled talent.

Training that fits around you
