Introduction to AI: tools and prompting workshop
Train your PR or newsroom team in how to use AI effectively. This hands‑on course teaches LLM fundamentals, prompting frameworks, workflow design, and practical tools for communications and journalism. Leave with real, usable AI outputs.
This AI course designed for newsrooms and communications teams focuses on building the essential skills you need to spot genuine opportunities, avoid common AI pitfalls, and build usable, reliable workflows that support your work in the real world.
What you’ll learn
The session begins with theory – understanding where we sit on the current AI adoption curve and how organisations are moving through the transformation. Participants will be given a clear overview of how Large Language Models (LLMs) actually work, introducing core concepts such as tokens, context windows and temperature, as well as why hallucinations occur.
From there, the course explores the practical considerations involved in choosing the right AI tools. Participants compare the strengths and weaknesses of leading models like GPT and Claude, understand when each is most effective, and apply a straightforward decision‑making and prompting framework to ensure the right tools are used in the most effective way.
The session concludes with a hands‑on workshop. Delegates evaluate where AI can support their specific roles, develop a production‑ready prompt tailored to a real everyday task, and test it live across different models. Through iteration and refinement, they gain practical experience creating AI‑powered outputs that are accurate, reliable and immediately usable.
How you’ll learn
This training is delivered in single four or six hour sessions broken into structured modules.
An expert trainer will guide you through presentations, discussion and hands‑on exercises — ensuring you leave with working AI outputs you can use immediately.
