The Journalism Diversity Fund awards bursaries to people from diverse backgrounds who need help funding their NCTJ journalism training. It is completely independent from PA Media Academy but we have had a number of the Academy’s NCTJ Diploma students over the years who have benefited from the support the JDF has been able to offer them.
You can receive help with your NCTJ Diploma fees and/or your living costs. But it’s not just about the funding. If you are a recipient of the award, you will be paired with a working journalist who will mentor you as your career begins to take shape, and join a network of other JDF recipients.
To apply for a JDF bursary you will need to show:-
- You are a British citizen residing in the UK
- You can bring diversity to a newsroom and are in financial need
- You have a genuine commitment to journalism and the potential to be successful
- You are not in receipt of any other bursary award
Applicants also need to show they have a place on an NCTJ-accredited Diploma course. PA Media Academy’s full-time fast-track programmes and our year-long part-time courses meet this criteria. Our next courses start in September 2024. However, it is important to apply early for your place and to the Fund.
The deadline dates to apply to the JDF for 2024 bursaries are:-
- Wednesday, May 1, 2024
- Wednesday, June 19, 2024
- Wednesday, July 31, 2024
- Wednesday, November 6, 2024
You can apply to the fund more than once so, if you are unsuccessful, there is a chance to take on board the feedback and apply again at a later date.
Obviously, you cannot benefit from a JDF bursary if you leave it too late to apply. And you cannot receive a JDF bursary for a course that has already started. So submit your application to join one of our courses as soon as you can – that will ensure you don’t miss out on your place, and you also have time to make your JDF application.
